Angela Gerhard was a creative soul even as a child. She was
interested in jewelry making from a young age and always dreamed of
becoming an artist of some sort. In 2006-2007, she took a couple of
workshops in enameling/torch firing and discovered her craft. Today,
Angela’s work can be seen at various shows across the country. Her
pieces were recently featured in 500 Enameled Objects: A
Celebration of Color on Metal by Lark Books (2009). The artist
currently works out of her metalworking studio in Holyoke, MA.
Angela creates a beautiful line of sterling silver enamel jewelry
that includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces and pins. She uses an
ancient technique of enameling to produce a contemporary jewelry line
that involves bold, geometric forms and vivid colors. Angela fondly
remembers her days as a dive instructor and draws much inspiration
from patterns and vibrant colors she saw under water. The artist
also takes ideas from ordinary objects and materials in life. Old
signs, concrete, and old paint off of rusting pipes become magnified
perceptions for the artist and are creatively translated into her
pieces.
