Born into a creative family, Liz Ryan was taught from an early age that there is nothing one cannot build or fix by hand. Taking this philosophy to heart, she pursued fine art studies at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. There she discovered her passion for metalsmithing. In 2007 the artist started her own jewelry line called Looka Jewelry and today she creates her artistic visions at her studio in Easthampton, MA.
Liz creates a whimsical collection of jewelry that features silhouettes of insects such as ants, flies, dragonflies and bees. She cuts out the insect shapes from the metal and hand creates each image into three dimensional hollow pieces of jewelry such as earrings, rings, and necklaces. She takes a seemingly unsightly subject and gives it beauty, charm, and humor. Her use of different metals such as copper, brass, and sterling silver gives a striking, almost mysterious look to her jewelry, which complements her subject matter.
