 Originally founded by Katherine Aberle, Studio 311 is currently owned by husband and wife Eric and Krista McCafferty. Today the couple continues to work closely with Katherine in order to preserve the principles that initially guided the creation of the business. Krista collaborates with Katherine to create new designs for the jewelry line, and Eric, who worked as a goldsmith under Katherine in the 1990s, is an integral part of the production aspect of the business.
Each of the designs created by Studio 311 has a historical reference with a modern twist and shows great appreciation for the art and culture from which it originated. Some of their motifs include the Greek labyrinth, Celtic links, and the renowned painting Starry Night (1889) by the Dutch post-impressionist Vincent Van Gogh. The artists’ most recent designs have Asian influences and beautifully mirror classic motifs such as cherry blossoms, cranes, and Zen gardens. The oxidation process applied to some of their designs exhibits a beautiful contrast with the metal and provides additional life and depth to the style. Some of their rings are also accented with diamonds that are beautifully entwined with the designs. Studio 311 wedding bands are available in 14k or 18k yellow, white, and rose gold, as well as in platinum. The bands are made to order in their studio in Petaluma, California.
